What is an MRI?

MRI or Magnetic Resonance Imaging is a non-radiating imaging scan.  Instead of harmful radiation that other medical imaging   produces, it uses a high magnetic field to obtain high-detail/high-resolution images.  These images are very helpful in determining injuries and diseases that X-ray and CT scans may not be able to pick up.  It is constantly being updated with advancing technology in order to help your doctor confirm his diagnosis.

What should I expect?

MRI scans can be scary to first time patients, laying still is about all you have to do while we are scanning.  MRIs are very loud and somewhat confined, if you are very claustrophobic and do not feel as though you will be able to complete your scan let your doctor know and they can prescribe you anxiety medicine.

How long will my exam take?

Exam time can vary due to many different causes, most scans are usually between 15-45 minutes.  If you are recieving contrast this is usually extended another 15-20 minutes.  Sometimes scans will have to be rescanned when the patient moves, causing the time to be extended as well.

When will I recieve my results?

We will fax your results to your reffering physician usually within 6 business hours of your scan, stat exams within a hour. Please allow your doctor time to look over the report before calling for results.  Images may be copied on to a CD at your doctor's request, patient requested CDs will be $5 each.

What do I need to wear?

Loose, metal free clothing is highly recommended.  Blue Jeans, metal button shirts, jewelry, watches, cell phones, wallets, purse and eyeglasses will be required to be removed before entering the MRI suite.  We do provide scrubs if needed to change.

Can family/friend come back with me?

Of course, we allow family or friends to accompany your during your scan after they fill out a screening form as well, young children generally may not be allowed. Your family or friend can even sit and hold your hand during the scan to help comfort you while we are scanning.  We are the only facility in the Big Country area that allows you to do this.

How much will it cost?

MRI cost will vary due to insurance benefits, we will have your insurance verified and will know how much is due at the time of your scan.  Payment is expected at time of services rendered, however we do offer a payment plan with post-dated checks or credit card if needed.  If you do not have insurance we offer a flat rate of $500 without contrast and $650 with contrast, if you use the payment plan on this there is an added $100 fee.  MRI scans from a hospital will range from $1000-$4000 without insurance, so this is great for patients without insurance.  You can also have peace of mind when leaving knowing that is all you will owe, no radiologist bill for reading.

Is my insurance in network?

We are in network with many major insurance companies, and we accept medicare/medicaid and tricare as well.  Please give our office a call (325-695-4624) if you have any questions regarding insurance benefits.
